Waiuku Dirt Track Club (Inc) History. Formed in 1982, the Waiuku Dirt Track Club comprised of approximately 60-80 people, who were interested in motor racing at an affordable and enjoyable level. For the following 7 years this group raced at venues where ever they could get support. Favourite race venues were: Waiuku mine site Maramarua Forrest – headquarters loop Various local farms Local Closed Public Roads – Forestry Road, Stream Road In 1989 Jim Sutton offered the club the use of his land at Aka Aka. From there the club formed an oval clay track on this land. The day the track was officially opened was one of great pride for the Waiuku Community. The Mayor of the day Max Short, his Deputy Kevin Lawrence and the local Traffic Officer Graham Burson all officiated at the opening ceremony. The Club continued to enjoy many years of successful racing at the track in Aka Aka. In 2002 due to the pending sale of the land the club lost the use of the track. In the mean time the club has raced over the summer season at Waikaraka Park. This season (2009) we returned to the new track located at Aka Aka.
